Endoscopy

Endoscopy

Endoscopy means looking inside and typically refers to looking inside the body for medical reasons using an endoscope, an instrument used to examine the interior of a hollow organ or cavity of the body. Unlike most other medical imaging devices, endoscopes are inserted directly into the organ.

At the Nawaloka Hospital, Negambo, endoscopic procedures available include colonoscopy, endoscopic ultrasonography and upper gastro-intestinal endoscopy.

The Endoscopy Unit is complete with a combination of traditional yet high-tech Endoscopic technology. While the tube traverses the stomach and small intestines, images are projected on to a screen. This procedure allows the doctors to see details, so that any abnormalities are easily detected.
